New year

2014 is here and it's already off to a quick start!
First off I'm disappointed in myself for not actively working on this thing, so I'm sorry. We made it to Dayton, Ohio and found a house that was wheelchair accessible on Wright Patterson AFB. That was a huge load off our shoulders not having to worry about where we will live and if it is a ADA home. Since moving in I received my handcycle courtesy of the American Fund and Semper Fi Fund. Both organizations have been a huge help to Kara and I, and to be honest they are better organizations than the Wounded Warrior Project. The beginning of September 2013 I officially retired from the Army, it's a weird feeling being relieved to be out but still missing the job. Event wise I competed in the Detroit marathon with a time of 2hr9min (I think). A friend of mine here in Dayton introduced me to bow hunting out in Lima Ohio. I had a great time (didn't get anything) but it was also a challenge getting around in the woods in the wheelchair (more on that later). Then of course the big family event that almost lasted all of December. It was great to see everyone but of course everyone passed germs around and Kara and myself finished the year sick.

Now it's 2014 and I've already completed a hunting trip out at Rhode Island with Hunters Helping Heros. It was a great 4 days of waterfowl hunting with a bunch of great guys.  Now I'm training up for the Army Marathon down in Texas on 2 March. Im honored to do it for the fallen comrades that I've worked with over the 8 years that I've been in the Army.
So back to getting around off-road. Americas Fund and Semper Fi Fund purchased the Action Trackchair for me. It's basically is a power chair with tracks on it and can almost get anywhere. Until next time.

  1. That chair is cool! so glad you are able to around everywhere. If you don't remember who I am, we are from Columbus, spent our last five years in Ohio at WPAFB, and now live in Fuquay Varina and go to church with your aunt. We bleed Scarlet and Gray. I have three nephews currently in the Army--one at Ft Bragg, one in Hawaii and one out of Ft Drum, currently in Afghanistan. My hubby is retired Air Force. So proud of you, thank you for your sacrifice. A;so proud of the way you have worked on recovery. Shari Judd
